Veterans Day 2023

Colorado State University
University of Northern Colorado
Colonel Gregg Johnson, Commander
Air Force ROTC, Detachment 90
cordially invites you to the
Veteran’s Day Ceremony
The keynote speaker will be Captain Deb Terry (Sep.) who graduated from CSU and is a pioneer as the first Detachment 90 female graduate to attend Undergraduate Pilot Training. She attended difference training for the KC-135 at Castle AFB, CA before being assigned to the 340th AREFG, 11 AREFS at Altus AFB, OK. She flew sorties around the world, becoming a KC-135A/R Evaluator Pilot. Her connection with CSU and Detachment 90 remained strong when David Green, her younger brother, graduated from CSU and commissioned into the Air Force. David Green, however, sadly passed away in a training accident in 1988. Captain Terry separated from the Air Force a year later in 1989. Since then, she has worked as a computer simulation software engineer at Hughes Rediffusion, designing simulator programs for the Air Force and Delta Air Lines. Desiring to honor her brother, she established scholarships to assist Detachment 90 AFROTC cadets and CSU military veterans. Captain Terry’s selection to the Alumni Council gives her more opportunities to support the Air Force and specifically, Colorado State University and Detachment 90.

VIETNAM TRAVELING WALL

Every Memorial Day weekend, the Plaza hosts its largest event of the year, bringing in thousands of people from all over Northern Colorado.
This event changes every year, but in the past has seen flyovers from WWII bombers, historical U.S. flag displays, Vietnam and post-9/11 traveling walls, and Military vehicle and equipment displays.
This year the AVTT Traveling Vietnam Wall and Cost of Freedom Tribute will be at Veterans Plaza.
Every other year (on odd years) Veterans Plaza brings the traveling Vietnam wall to the Plaza grounds. This wall is a 1/16-scale replica of the actual Vietnam Wall in Washington D.C., and travels around the country in memoriam.
Additionally, the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club puts up their “Field of Honor® American Flag Display,” which consists of 500 American flags in formation. Hanging on the flags are medallions bearing the names of others’ heroes.
Other veteran-serving organizations contribute to the day by setting up booths and offering services on the Plaza grounds as well.
In addition to the displays, a ceremony takes place yearly where soils from battlefields and places of remembrance from around the world are brought here and placed in the garden by a veteran.
Flag Day 2023

Celebrate the anniversary of our Flag! There will be 25 historic American flags displayed where you can learn the history of our nation's flag.
Flags will be displayed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or until there are sustained winds of 10 mph or more.
