What is Veterans Plaza?
Veterans Plaza is both a physical location and a non-partisan, completely volunteer-run (501c3) non-profit organization dedicated to a single mission accented by three pillars: Honor, Support, and Educate.
Our mission is to honor and support military veterans while educating the Colorado community and future generations about the history and meaning of service in the United States Armed Forces.
More than 25,000 military veterans and 125,000 of their immediate family members call northern Colorado home. This is who we serve in our mission to honor, support, and educate.
Since 2011, the Veterans Plaza has honored their service and is dedicated to educating future generations regarding the role veterans have played in guaranteeing our freedom. The Veterans Plaza allows citizens to be a part of something larger than themselves. It provides a place of beauty where we can recognize the selfless service and sacrifices made by veterans, especially those living among us.
Veterans Plaza is located at the southern entrance to Spring Canyon Community Park, in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Come visit us: 2626 West Horsetooth Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526.
Place of Honor and Remembrance
Dedicated in May 2011, the physical Veterans Plaza serves as a place of remembrance of the valor and sacrifices made by our veterans, in both times of war and times of peace. The space itself has a stage bordered by the insignia of each military branch, facing an inclined grass area split by long stone benches. Leading up to the stage is a walkway with a touch screen monitor where the names of veterans nominated to our organization are given a place of honor accessible to park patrons. If you would like to nominate a veteran follow the steps here: Nominate a Veteran
Local Community Hub
As a public space meant to bring the community together, Veterans Plaza serves an important role as an access point and community hub for local veterans and veteran organizations. During our events, we invite veteran-serving organizations to our grounds to set up booths and offer services to our community. It is our hope that through the recognition of our service members, patrons of the Plaza will find it to be a site of reflection, commemoration, and inspiration. The grounds and stage are open to the public for use throughout the year.
Reserve the Plaza
The Plaza is a public space. To reserve the Plaza as a venue, visit RESERVE PLAZA, or contact the City of Fort Collins Parks Department at (970) 221-6660.
Vet-to-vet Fund
Many involved with the Plaza would agree that one of the best parts about our organization is our "Vet-to-Vet fund." This is a fund that goes directly to local community veterans for specific and often time-sensitive needs. To date, we have given more than $20,000 to local veterans and their families struggling with mortgage payments, car payments, medical bills, childcare, funeral costs, and even groceries. The recipients of these funds are first vetted by local veteran-serving organizations and are referred to us. Our vet-to-vet fund gives us a quick turnaround when veterans and their families need it most.
